BBBA Giving Thanks Contest
Due to the overwhelming response to the BBBA Giving Thanks contest this Thanksgiving, Scott decided that it would be a great way to pay it forward and kick start holiday celebrations by selecting a second winner! So congrats to Susan Murray from North Little Rock, AK and Mya Murphy from West Orange, NJ!
Susan shared her thanks: "I am Thankful for Family and Friends. My Husband just passed Nov 20 2020 and if it wasn't for Family I don't know what I would do. I am thankful because I know Jesus is our Comfort."
Mya shared her thanks: "I am thankful that I am not homeless or abused. I have a brand new start. Every single day I praise God for this. Every day is a gift! I am alive and thriving. I have a roof over my head, food in my fridge, and the fact I have internet! I have power, water, and heat. Most people don't realize how hard it is without those luxuries, or where their next meal is coming from. That's why I feel so blessed. I am grateful for my friends and family, the domestic violence shelter. I could go on and on."
Other comments included...
From Sandi in Riverside, CA: "I am thankful for my first grandson and I’m thankful he is healthy. I am thankful having an awesome son and daughter-in-law. I’m thankful for my brothers, dad (he just turned 101) and all the extended family. I’m thankful I have my dogs for company and exercise. I’m thankful I can listen to books almost anywhere and anytime."
From JoAnne in Gladsone, OR: "This week, I ran across some cherished photos of final resting places for blood relatives that I hadn't looked at for a long while. I am thankful to be able to hold onto such an outpouring of kind-heartedness from friends and even perfect strangers. I wanted to put a rose and a personal laminated note on some of my closest birth family's graves across the United States. It was my way of turning the many losses into something more positive and meaningful to me. Not one of these family members did I ever have a chance to meet. Many times in my search for someone who lived close by to the different cemeteries, a new or old friend would write back and say, 'Yes, JoAnne, I would love to be part of your journey!' Even as I have struggled to understand why life had to be so difficult and confusing at times, I always seem to find the best of humanity to lift my spirits."
From Justin in Moorpark, CA: "As it was for most people, 2020 has been a very hard year for me. On top of COVID, my wife left me. The pressure of having young children and then being under lockdown just got to be too much for her. But I am so thankful for the time that I did get with her, and above all I am just so thankful for my 3 little girls. They are everything to me. I am thankful to have a job to go to every day, even if it isn't what I dreamed it would be when I was a boy. And I am also thankful for books. Writing is my real passion, and although it doesn't support me, it gives me an escape and a freedom that I can't get any other way. It lets me meet people who I otherwise would never get to meet and it lets me use my mind and imagination in ways that I desperately need. I am thankful for all those who sacrifice for me, even though they have never met me. Police officers, soldiers, firemen, doctors, nurses, farmers, truck drivers, and so many others. I am thankful for each breath that I am given, and, although I am not a perfect man by any means, I am thankful to be able to lend a hand or share a little kindness to others when I can."
From Scott in Burbank, CA: "Well, I am thankful for so many things. The challenges of the past year have allowed me to slow down and be more. I had more time with my wife and cats. I saw more sunsets and sunrises. I am thankful for my family and friends' support through phone calls, letters, and video chats. I am grateful that my mother survived cancer and is now walking 5 miles a day with her husband. I am thankful for the space to change my career trajectory back towards helping others and supporting my art."
